Docking is a spectator’s sport and you don’t want to be the main actor when it fails.

ASA 118 Docking Endorsement is designed for sailors who want to handle docking with confidence and precision. Docking can be one of the most challenging parts of boating, but with the right techniques, it becomes smooth and manageable.

This course gives you the skills and knowledge to dock safely in a variety of conditions, reducing stress and making your boating experience more enjoyable. You’ll learn how wind, current, and prop walk affect boat handling, and how to use fenders, lines, and boat hooks effectively in different docking scenarios. Practical exercises include precise stops, turns, and docking maneuvers in tight spaces or crowded marinas, both with and without engine power.

You’ll also practice using spring lines, understanding your boat’s pivot point, and other key techniques to handle any docking situation with ease. By the end of the course, you’ll be a more confident, competent sailor, capable of managing your boat safely and skillfully in any docking situation.
