Find a Sail Compliance with TG20-16
Find a Sail fully complies with TG20-16, ensuring that all RYA Recognised Training Centres (RTCs) using the platform remain within RYA guidelines. Below is a breakdown of how we meet each requirement.
Please refer to full TG20-16 at https://www.rya.org.uk/document-finder?keyword=TG20-16
General Compliance
Find a Sail is a connecting platform, not a training provider.
We do not deliver training, issue certifications, or interfere with RTC operations. Schools remain fully responsible for their courses and bookings.
Direct contractual relationship between Student and School
Students contract directly with the RTC, and all payments are made to the school. Find a Sail does not process student payments.
Agency Agreement Requirement
Each Provider (RTC) working with Find a Sail must sign an Agency Agreement, fulfilling RYA’s requirement for any third-party involvement in selling RYA courses.
This agreement ensures the RTC retains full control over their course listings, pricing, terms, and student interactions.
Marketing & Advertising Compliance
Providers have full control over course listings
Each RTC creates and manages its own listings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with RYA guidelines.
Transparency in Marketing
Each listing clearly states the RTC name and course location, as required.
Find a Sail does not use the RYA logo or imply endorsement.
We verify that schools are RTCs before allowing them to list RYA courses.
Responsible Advertising
Listings must comply with all relevant advertising laws and must not include misleading claims such as “Guaranteed Exam Pass.”
Providers are responsible for ensuring their listings align with RYA expectations.
Booking Process & Terms and Conditions
RTC’s own terms apply
Students must agree to the RTC’s terms and conditions before booking.
Each RTC uploads their own policies (T&Cs, cancellation policies, FAQs) to their listing.
Booking process follows TG20-16 guidelines
Find a Sail connects the student with the RTC, who then manages the booking directly.
RTCs handle all contractual, legal, and financial aspects of the training.
Data Protection & Student Information
Minimal data sharing
Find a Sail collects only basic contact details (name, email, phone) and shares them only with the RTC the student books with, per GDPR and TG20-16.
RTC responsible for additional student details
Once a booking is confirmed, the RTC collects all additional necessary information (health declarations, emergency contacts, etc.) as per RYA standards.
Complaint Handling
RTCs remain responsible for handling student complaints.
Find a Sail does not mediate disputes between students and schools but facilitates communication between the two.
Feedback & Support
Find a Sail offers a review and rating system, helping students make informed decisions.
Insurance & Legal Considerations
RTCs maintain full responsibility for course delivery
RTCs must ensure their training is covered under their own insurance policies.
Find a Sail does not assume liability for training, aligning with TG20-16’s guidelines.
Termination & Compliance Monitoring
RTC control over listings
Schools can edit, pause, or remove their listings at any time.
Maintaining RTC recognition
We verify RYA recognition before listing an RTC.
If an RTC loses recognition, they must remove their courses from Find a Sail immediately.
We are open to working with the RYA on a mechanism to stay updated on RTC status changes.
Distance Learning & Online Course Compliance
Affiliation Model
Find a Sail does not directly sell online RYA courses but acts as an affiliate for existing RTCs that do.
We link directly to the RTCs’ platforms where students can purchase and complete online courses.
All training, support, and certification remain the RTC’s responsibility.
Financial Transactions & Commission Model
Find a Sail does not process student payments.
Payment is made directly to the RTC, and the RTC pays Find a Sail a commission after a suitable cancellation period.
This structure ensures the RTC remains fully accountable for booking policies, payments, and refunds.
Final Notes
Find a Sail is designed to work alongside sailing schools, helping them reach more students while maintaining full control over their offerings. Our goal is to create a collaborative and transparent environment where RTCs can thrive, fill their courses, and grow their business while ensuring full compliance with RYA’s policies.
We are always happy to discuss how we can best support your school and address any questions or concerns you may have.
